About the Artist

Ansel Adams (1902–1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist known for his black-and-white landscape photographs of the American West. Adams felt an intense commitment to promoting photography as a fine art and played a key role in the establishment of the first museum department of photography, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
