About the Artist

Dubbed "the eye of Paris" in an essay by Henry Miller in 1934, extraordinary photographer Brassaí¿ (born Gyula Halasz) captured the essence of nighttime Paris in his photographs, from charming city streets, to the mysteries of the dark pubs and brothels. In addition to contributing to various magazines and publishing many books, Brassai was a regular photographer for Harperäó»s Bazaar for 25 years and the recipient of numerous awards, including the first Grand Prix National de la Photographie in Paris in 1978.
