Chagall: Angel in the Chandelier, Boxed Holiday Cards

About the Artist

Marc Chagall (1887–1985) was a Russian-born painter, lithographer, etcher, and designer. His unique style combines fauve, cubist, expressionist, and suprematist influences, while reflecting his native Jewish Russian culture. The Gallery's permanent collection contains a number of works by Chagall, notably an exquisite glass and stone mosaic bequeathed to the Gallery by arts patron Evelyn Stefansson Nef (1913–2009). One of Washington's hidden treasures, Orphée (1969), was installed in the Sculpture Garden in 2013, providing it with a permanent and public home.
