The Gallery Shops are dedicated to providing our customers with first class service. Please see below for the ways in which we can assist you.



The well-being of our staff and visitors is our top priority. Therefore, the Gallery closed its doors to the public beginning Saturday, March 14, 2020 and will remain closed until further notice. All public events are canceled through Monday, September 7, 2020.

Our online store is open but our fulfillment center is operating at reduced capacity. We are shipping orders on a weekly basis, and you will receive a tracking notification when your order has shipped. Our Gallery Shops customer service staff are working remotely and will respond to voicemail and email inquires as quickly as they can.

We will continue to assess our operating status as we receive updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Office of Personnel Management, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, and the US Department of State regarding the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

We are dedicated to responding to our customers in a timely manner. We review messages in the order they are received and will reply to most messages within 2 business days.

Register for or Sign In to your account here. When you register an account with us, you can access a number of your account details quickly and easily. You can change your profile, email preferences, and address book information, as well as view your online order history and track shipments. You can also manage your wish lists, registries, and keep track of gift certificates and Mercury Program points.

International Orders

Please note that for international shipments the recipient is responsible for all applicable customs duties, tariffs, taxes, or brokerage fees (brokerage fees apply to all Canadian addresses, and to some other locations), which are collected by the carrier upon delivery. Fedex requires a signature upon delivery for all international shipments.

Shipping & Handling

The Gallery Shops offer four levels of service within the United States plus international shipping. FedEx delivery is available to more than 215 countries worldwide. Please see the current list of locations served and special instructions for international shipments.  

Our delivery estimates include the time needed for order processing at our warehouse, which is open Monday–Friday, except US federal holidays. Standard shipments will arrive within 5 to 8 business days; Express shipments will arrive within 4 to 5 business days; Priority shipments will arrive within 3 to 4 business days, and Rush shipments will arrive within 2 to 3 business days. Orders must be placed by 12:00 pm ET (excluding weekends and holidays) to be considered as placed on a given business day for expedited services. International shipments and delivery to US territories will arrive within 7 to 14 business days, and vary by location.  

We regret we are unable to deliver to APO/FPO addresses or PO boxes.

Additional shipping charges may apply to some orders due to size, weight, or special handling that is required to make sure your order reaches you safely. A customer service representative will contact you prior to processing your order if any additional fees apply.

Returns & Exchanges

If for any reason you are not satisfied with your order, we will happily accept your return within 60 days for a full refund in the amount of the returned merchandise (not including shipping or service fees). Refunds are issued in the form of original payment or gift card. Merchandise must be in original condition.

To return or exchange an item, please fill out the form included with your order. Pack the item securely, and send it to:

If your merchandise is damaged or defective at the time of delivery, please contact customer service for assistance. Refunds for items received as gifts will be issued in the form of an electronic gift certificate for the price paid by the purchaser. Without proof of purchase, a gift card will be issued at the lowest selling price. In-store returns for online purchases can only be accepted with the original order confirmation showing the price paid.

Please allow 1–2 billing cycles from the time we receive the returned item for the refund to appear on your credit card statement.

Email Preferences

You can sign up to receive emails from The Gallery Shops by scrolling to the bottom of any page on this website. Fill in your email address where it says "Sign up for Gallery Shops email." You can also subscribe when you register an account here. Once you are registered, you can manage your subscription in My Account by clicking "Edit Email Preferences." We send a few emails per week about special promotions and sales, current exhibition merchandise, new products, and other exciting product information. You can unsubscribe from email at any time using the links in the footer of our emails.

Special Offers & Promotions

The Gallery Shops make special offers and promotions available to our customers on our web site, through our emails, via the Gallery's social media accounts, and in print and online media. To use a code enter it in the Promotion Code or Coupon field on the shopping cart page. Your savings will display in the order totals area.

Only one code can be entered per order unless specified otherwise; codes cannot be applied to prior purchases, minimum order total requirements (excluding shipping and handling charges) must be met for each order, and the code must not be expired.


Use code SPRING20 at checkout to receive $20 off your purchase of $100 or more, excluding shipping and handling. Discount is available online only and cannot be applied to previous purchases or combined with other offers. Discount does not apply to eGift Certificates or NGA Custom Prints. The Gallery reserves the right to make changes to this promotional offer at any time, without prior notification.

Mercury Rewards

To earn Mercury Points:

Register an account and you will automatically receive 100 points to get started. Then you will receive 1 Mercury point for every dollar spent online at the Gallery Shops when you checkout using your registered account. Points are awarded on the value of merchandise only. Some restrictions apply. Certain products, such as limited editions, do not accumulate program points. See individual product pages for details. Shipping and handling and oversize item surcharges do not count toward point totals. You will not accrue points on the purchase of gift cards. Rewards cannot be converted to cash, and are not transferable.

To redeem Mercury Points:

Once you start accruing Mercury points, you are eligible to redeem them on your next purchase. Simply select the Redeem button on the Payment Page during checkout, and the reward value will be subtracted from your total.

The Mercury Rewards program is free of charge and is available to all registered online customers. Rewards are not applicable on purchases in the Gallery's brick-and-mortar retail shops or on phone orders. Mercury Program points never expire, and you can opt to use them on any transaction. If for any reason you return an item, your points will be voided.


The Gallery Shops are pleased to offer a discount to National Gallery of Art members. If you are a member, you can use your discount online by entering the promotion code you received from the membership office in the Membership Code field on the shopping cart page. Gift Cards & Store Credit

Sending an eGift Certificate is quick and easy. The Gallery Shops offer electronic gift cards in $25, $50, $100, and $200 denominations.

To purchase an online gift card, simply select the amount of your gift and fill in the information requested, click the add to cart button, and check out. You will receive an order confirmation email, and your gift recipient will receive an email containing your personalized message and their gift certificate code. Your credit card will be charged at the time of purchase.

To redeem an online gift card, click the redeem button on the payment page during checkout, and enter your unique code. You can also check your balance on the payment page. The entire gift certificate value does not need to be used in a single transaction. Save your unique code to use again on your next purchase. If your purchase exceeds the value of your gift card, a credit card will be required to pay the balance and complete your order.

If you have a registered account, you can register your online gift card at any time, to convert the value to store credit. Your credit will be stored in your online account, ready to add to your next purchase, and you won't need to worry about losing your unique code. Anytime you redeem a gift card using your registered account, the unused balance will automatically be registered to your account, to be used towards a future purchase. Visit the My Account page anytime to manage your online gift certificates, register a new gift certificate, or check your balance.

eGift Certificates are redeemable online only and never expire. eGift Certificates may not be redeemed for cash except as required by law.

About NGA Custom Prints

The National Gallery of Art Custom Prints program is designed to provide a much wider range of images than we are able to carry at the Gallery Shops to be available to the public as top quality print reproductions. Our collaboration with technology and print specialists allows us a number of customer conveniences, such as being able to pick from a menu of options including print size, a choice of paper or canvas, and a range of framing styles. All the printing and optional framing is done in the USA with orders custom-produced and shipped for delivery within two weeks. Because everything is made to order, sales are final and non-returnable. Visit NGA Custom Prints to learn more about this program and purchase your custom prints today.

Please note the NGA Custom Prints program is separate from the Gallery Shops website, and you cannot combine custom prints with items purchased at the Gallery Shops in the same order. Coupons and promotions for the Gallery Shops may not be valid on custom prints.

Security & Privacy

The Gallery Shops online store is safe and secure. Whether you are browsing or placing an order, your experience on our site takes place in a secure zone. You will notice that the web site address (URL) displays as https at all times.  In addition to offering the entire site in a secure mode, The Gallery Shops are compliant with the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) as well as Federal Information Processing Standards (FIPS), and we use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology plus field encryption to safeguard your personal information, such as your name, address, and credit card information, as it travels over the Internet. The Gallery Shops are also a GeoTrust Secure Site and display the domain authentication certificate in checkout. We process credit cards using the payment gateway, where an anonymous token is used to process your order, and we never retain your credit card details on our servers once your order is placed.

In addition to site security, the National Gallery of Art will not share your personally identifiable information, shipping destination information or credit card information with any third parties except to process your order or as required by law.
