About the Artist
Albert Bierstadt (1830–1902) was a German-born American painter best-known for his large-scale landscapes of the western United States that offered a war-torn nation a golden image of their own Promised Land. Though not the first artist to see or even paint the Rockies and other U.S. mountain ranges, Bierstadt was the first who brought with him superior technical skills and considerable experience painting European alpine peaks.
This poster is a reproduction of Albert Bierstadt's Among the Sierra Nevada, California (1868), which depicts a spectacular view of the majestic mountain range.
