This holiday card set depicts Giovanni di Domenico's The Angel of the Annunciation and The Virgin Annunciate from the collection of the National Gallery of Art. The inside greeting reads: With all good wishes for Christmas and the New Year.
Both stained glass windows were originally created by a priest called Ser Giovanni di Domenico "de vreti" ("of the stained glass windows") for the Church and convent of Cestello (later Santa Maria Maddalena de' Pazzi) in Florence. Since the windows later appeared in a French collection, they may have been removed during Napoleon's Italian campaign, when several altarpieces from the church were taken to France.
