Finding inspiration in 15th-century Florence, this handcrafted necklace combines gold floral designs with freshwater pearls for a sophisticated classical look. Many Renaissance artists started their careers in goldsmith workshops, learning about accuracy of line and clarity of style. This created a close relationship between painters and goldsmiths and partly explains the excellent depiction of jewelry in Renaissance portraits. These paintings give great insight into the jewelry that was produced during this period in conjunction with the study of surviving pieces.
