About the Artist
Louise Josephine Bourgeois (1911–2010) was a renowned French American artist and sculptor, best known for her contributions to modern art, including her spider sculptures. She is recognized today as the founder of confessional art.
This intricate tapestry placemat set captures Louise Bourgeois's final works in dazzling detail. Growing up surrounded by the textiles of her parents' tapestry restoration workshop, fabric played an important role in the artist's life. Over the years she amassed an incredible collection of clothing and homespun linens, which she then cut up and restitched into abstract works of art.
