Dufy: Violet Fleurs Tie

About the Artist

Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) was a French painter in oil and watercolor, illustrator, and designer noted for his brightly colored and highly decorative scenes of luxury and leisure. While studying in Paris under Bonnat at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Dufy's early work was influenced by the impressionists, but he soon began to explore the broad brushstrokes and richer colors of Fauvism, and briefly adopted some elements of Cubism. Dufy also found success in woodcuts, lithographs, textiles, ceramics, and other mediums.
