About the Artist

This vibrant silk scarf features a reproduction of William Klein's 2011 edition of his famous photograph Club Allegro Fortissimo (1990). The scene is an intimate portrait of full-figured women in Paris who frequented the public pool Club Allegro Fortissimo, where they were safe from discrimination. This scarf shows the surrounding contact sheet, which Klein has painted over in yellow and purple in addition to the red he would use to mark the frames he had chosen to print. The vivid colors further embolden the women who are proud, defiant, and stare unflinchingly at the camera.
