About the Artist
Laurent Guillot has worked in the fashion industry in Paris for over 25 years, creating dramatic jewelry for Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Courreges, Guy Laroche, Baccarat, Swarovski, and many others. His training started in painting restoration, where he mastered a range of techniques, including working with foil and gold leaf, and he learned how to layer materials to create different effects. Using these techniques, Guillot now works primarily in lucite, crystal, and glass to create contemporary jewelry.
This stunning statement necklace reflects the triangular theme of the Gallery's East Building, designed by I. M. Pei. The trapezoidal shape of the building site initially posed a significant design challenge and inspired Pei to divide the plot into two triangles. This concept was echoed throughout the space, from the marble flooring to the atrium skylights.
