About the Artist
Frédéric Bazille (1841–1870) was an instrumental figure in the impressionist movement, but remains relatively unknown. His contemporaries included Claude Monet, Alfred Sisley, and Édouard Manet. Born into a wealthy family, Bazille helped support his less fortunate associates by giving them space in his studio and materials to use.
Created on the occasion of the exhibition Frédéric Bazille and the Birth of Impressionism, this canvas tote bag features a detail from Young Woman with Peonies (spring 1870) and bright red handles.
